It’s a quiet rainy day. Sitting on the bed, lap desk on her knees, author Stephanie Randall prepares to write another page in her exciting line of books. Get ready to feel intrigue, personal thought and maybe a little self-reflection from the world Stephanie Randall.
My name is Stephanie Randall and I am from East Baltimore. What inspired me to write my first book was my love for writing. I felt like there was a need for a book that captured all aspects of the streets that you could also take lessons from as well.
I do not have a specific writing style. I want my books to appeal to a wide variety of people. Yes. There are messages in all of my books that I want my readers to grasp. In Living Fast, I want people to know that it easy to become a product of your environment however it is your own personal choice to be better than that. From The Return of Ms. Rose, I want people to understand that just because you change your life for the better it doesn’t mean that it’s going to be easy. I want people to be aware that mental illness is a real issue, and that’s what I want them to take from Mind Over Matter. I would have to say that the book that has most influenced my life was Fly Girl, by Omar Tyree. I think that when I read that book that was the first time that I knew in my heart that I wanted to be a writer.
My favorite writer hands down is Maya Angelou. Her writing was so eloquent. Her pieces really showed her wisdom. I love that about her work. So I would and could consider her to be my mentor. I love to speak and write beautifully. Maya Angelou’s work speaks beauty to me. There aren’t any new authors that have interested me. Not because I don’t find anyone interesting. It’s just because I have been writing so much that I haven’t had much time to read anyone else’s material. My most current project is Mind Over Matter was released December 3, 2014. I am also preparing to star in and direct my first independent film that I have written, which was derived from my first novel Living Fast. I will be directing and acting in it as well. Filming should begin around March 2015. If I could do it all over again I wouldn’t change anything about my latest book. I am very satisfied with the outcome. My interest in writing has been with me as long as I can remember. I always excelled in Language Arts and English class when I was in school. I always enjoyed writing papers. The one thing I find challenging in writing is not to make all my stories the same. Every time I bring forth a new story I want it to be fresh and new. I don’t want things to be repetitive. My favorite author is Omar Tyree because his book Fly Girl really inspired me to become an author. In my opinion he makes urban fiction interesting, and his novels aren’t your average “hood books”.
Skarr Akbar designs all my book covers. He is very talented. I don’t give him much direction. He just does his thing. I love it. The hardest thing about writing my books so far has been my experience with writing Mind Over Matter. While finishing it up, my life was turned upside down when my partner went missing. He still hasn’t been found. Trying to focus on work while you are dealing with heartache is very difficult. I have learned many things during the process of writing all three of my books. One thing I learned is that not everyone will support you and some people will look at you like you’re crazy for pursuing your dreams. Another thing is a lot of hard work and dedication goes into it. I also learned that even when you are going through your most heart wrenching experiences, you have to continue on with your life in spite of. My advice to other writers is to make sure that writing is your calling. Anyone can write a story. What makes your story unique is your ability to paint a picture with words. Take your craft very seriously.
I want to tell all my readers THANK YOU.
There you have it ladies and gentleman. Directly from the soul and mind of a beautiful person and writer. Make sure you open up the pages of her books and get to know her and her characters.
