I will lift up my eyes to the hills from whence comes my help?  My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.  Psalm 121:1-2

I was asked by my 16 year old son to help him with a bit of homework. Usually when a parent hears that nowadays we envision fractions, negatives and pluses and calculus!  But I digress, this was not the case.  He wanted me to help him deal with learning the first amendment.  As I worked with him to remember the words he was forgetting, he spent most of the session asking what this had to do with journalism and then began doubting his ability to remember any of it and then stated that he would be happy with a  72 our of 100 for his score!  I couldn’t believe it!  I looked at him as we went over and over and over again this part of the Constitution and I said no!  You will not settle!  You will strive to get the best grade you can get and you really need to learn to stop negating your abilities in every situation.  I would not let him settle.

As I thought about this after he finally got it and etched out a small smile, I thought about faith equaling trust!  God has asked us time and again to believe, have faith and trust that He will do what he says he will do.  As I combed thru the bible and google to find exact verses on trust, I was learning my own lesson in the process.  Psalm 121:1-2 reminds us where to look for our help and where it comes from.  We go thru a lot in life but in Psalm 34:19 we are reminded that though many are the afflictions, the Lord will bring us out of them all.  As David pleaded and begged for forgiveness in the first verse of Psalm 25, he also let God know where his faith was and it was in Him.  So many more verses throughout the bible talk about trust especially Proverbs 3:5-6 where we are admonished to trust in the Lord with everything we have.  Not only does our faith bolster our ability to believe, but it also gives us the strength to continue to trust even though we may not be able to see the outcome.  We know that God has our best interest at heart.  That is a heart that I want to remain close to.

The old song says I will trust in the Lord till I die!  Whoo!  Just humming that song right now makes me happy!  As a mom I would not let my son negate his ability to do well in his studies….God will not let you fall or be left alone during your walk with Him in faith!
