Driving through a local neighborhood, I stopped to admire the yard work in some of the yards. The crafted care that the homeowners take to make sure that their yards are visibly appealing is truly a work of art. I noticed how most of the hedgework was even with certain other foilage or was shaped to meet up with the wall or the edge of the home or sidewalk. Even while watching, many were out in their yards with tools and machinery making sure everything was just the way they wanted it. I started to think about the many times that I have prayed myself or heard others pray for a hedge of protection be it for their families or for others. So the question came forth….How high is your hedge?
The go to protection prayer is Psalm 91. Looking into this Psalm, this is telling the reader about God’s protection for them. Putting your trust in God that He will take care of you! Oh how that brings the hymn to mind Yield Not to Temptation. As you go further into the psalm, you receive many affirmations of what you will be protected from. Not knowing what lies in front of us, placing our trust in Him assures us that our steps are ordered and that we can rely on the shelter of the Almighty.
As I looked thru and looked up the word protection, it brought up many other times protection was observed. Even satan knew of God’s protection when it came to Job. Even though his hedge was lifted and he went thru what he did, God still prevailed in the end.
Protection is mentioned in other places in the bible as well. Hosea had concern for Gomer so God did this:
But I will fence her in with thornbushes. I will block the road to make her lose her way. When she runs after her lovers, she won’t be able to catch up with them. She will search for them but not find them. Then she will think “I might as well return to my husband because I was better off with him than I am now.” Hosea 2:6–7 (NLT)
All in all, with all the powerful prayers that are throughout the gospel, we must make sure that we are in earnest when we pray so that we are not subject to evil. Remember, satan knows the word as well. Keep in mind that as long as we are transparent with Him and we Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16
