Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”  John 6: 28-29

I was walking to work today and got to thinking about all the steps that I had to go through to get employed over the years.  It was not an easy process.  You go from finding the job, filling out the application and more.  If you have a healthy job history, you begin to add pages.  You want it to be professional looking so you drum up a resume.  After getting an interview you practice in the mirror and hope to make a good impression.  If you are blessed enough to make it past the interview process and get the call stating you got the job then begins the next process of passing background checks, drug tests and more.  It is not a simple process as before.

Now where does this all lead?  In my bible reading in the book of John it was spelled out so clear it practically jumped off the page.  The question was asked after the feeding of the 5000.  All were in amazement and wanted to know the steps to do what is required.  As mentioned in verse 29, the duties are simple;  BELIEVE. Now if only applying for a job here on earth were that simple right?  Jesus took on a massive task with such ease that it amazed those who saw it.  They needed to know more.  But what I noticed is that there was no frenzy except among those who were fretful on how to feed the masses.  The situation may have looked dire but Jesus did not fret at all for he knew who would handle it!

God has not put us in any situation that our faith and belief cannot carry us through.  Col 3:23 states that  Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.  Then it goes on in verse 24 to let us know since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.  Work in the kingdom is not hard, no not by any means, when you do the work knowing that there is a reward from the Lord, you know you are doing it in service of Him not of man.  Who would you rather put the work in for?  Jesus, my kind of supervisor!

When you really look at the entire situation, we don’t even have to pick up a pen or prove our ability to do anything or break out a list of references.  We don’t have any on the job training that would qualify us to fit any position that God has.  The only requirement to be fulfilled to do the work of the kingdom does not require an interview or background check.  We are only required to believe and with that belief set out to love with the love God has given each and everyone of us.
